perseverance, leadership, integrity, enthusiasm, inspiration, structure,
respect, ambition, and genuine care for others define his personality. In addition, he has conducted several seminars in positive mental attitude, pressure point tactics, and self defense seminars for school teachers, police officers, and business employees. He studied Judo and Savate in Algiers under the instruction of a French Master Lucien Vernier. When he arrived in the US, he studied Kung Fu with Kim Wong, and joined the World Taekwondo Federation in Master Sang Yung school at Georgia Tech. He practiced American Karate in Joe Corley’s school in Buckhead, Georgia, recalling memorable events like the battle of Atlanta and the exhibition match between his instructor and Super Foot Bill Wallace. Mr. Tabet has been a senior instructor over six Taekwondo schools in Georgia (Riverdale, Jonesboro, North Clayton, Buckhead, Vidalia, and Lyons), and another in Boston, Massachusetts. He trained thousands of students from the age of four to well over sixty and promoted hundreds to various black belt levels. Many of his black belt students attended ATA camps and have become certified instructors, including several 3rd degrees. One is preparing to test for his 4th degree and another already a 5th degree Certified Instructor and full time school operator. Many of his students, including black belts, have competed and ranked in the Top 10 ATA national ranking. In 1982, Mr Tabet joined the ATA under the instruction of 5th Degree Black Belt Richard Hamilton, in his first full time ATA school in Smyrna, Georgia. Mr. Hamilton was among the senior instructors selected by Eternal Grand Master Haeng Ung Lee, to design the ATA forms practiced today, and to sign the original “Scrolls of SongAhm” in August 13, 1983. In 1984, Mr. Tabet received his 1st Degree Black Belt. In 1985, as a request from the ATA students and families in the South Atlanta area, he became Chief Instructor of Riverdale Recreation Center (RRC). In 1986 he received Grand Master H.U. Lee approval of RRC becoming an official ATA school location. In the summer of 1985, he attended ATA training camp at the 4H location in Little Rock, Arkansas, and became Certified Instructor. It was a memorable opportunity to receive one-on-one direct instruction from Eternal Grand Master Haeng Ung Lee (ATA Founder) and his brother Grand Master Soon Ho Lee (Current ATA President). He also had the opportunity to meet with ATA high ranking officials, and members of the Lee family, with whom he formed a strong bond and mutual respect. In 1987, he received his 2nd Degree Black Belt. In 1989, he received his 3rd Degree and hosted the ATA City Tournament in Jonesboro Methodist Church Gymnasium. The tournament was open to all local ATA schools and clubs. The special guest was his senior instructor 4th Degree Black Belt and Regional Director Mr. Todd Droege. In 1990, Mr. Tabet hosted Eternal Grand Master Lee’s visit to the RRC promotional testing, followed by a Golden Crown Chinese lunch with some local ATA instructors, students, and parents. Couple of years later, Eternal Grand Master Lee visited the RRC again. He also visited Mr. Tabet’s house making it a memorable surprise for all family members and their guests from Florida. In 1991, he reached a milestone when one of his black belts became a certified instructor. He mentored and trained this black belt to achieve ATA Junior Leader rank at age 12, attain 2nd , 3rd, and 4th degree black belt, attend ATA Instructor Camp to be certified, assigned as head instructor over one of the clubs, and later become a 5th degree and successful full time school operator. Since joining ATA in 1982, Mr. Tabet has participated in several demonstrations, seminars, and leadership camps. He contributed to the national event of 100,000 board break, conducted by all ATA schools, to raise $500,000 donated by Eternal Grand Master Lee to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mr. Tabet has judged and competed in regional, national, and world championships. Eight years he has reached the top 10 national and world rankings and three years he was ranked in the top four. During the 1996 tournament circuit competition, he won 1st place in all sparring matches and most first places in forms. He also won 1st place in both forms and sparring at the World Championships. He achieved Silver Medal for that year, finishing 2nd in world rankings in the men’s 4th Degree Black Belt division. After getting a no-change at the June 1997 International Testing, he received a personal card from Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee with words of encouragement, wisdom, and famous motto: “I want you to remember - Today Impossible, Tomorrow Possible.” Very inspired, Mr Tabet retested successfully at the Las Vegas Nationals and received his 5th Degree Black Belt in March 1998. To be eligible for 6th degree Black Belt testing, he completed his third and last midterm requirements at the 2006 International Leadership Camp in Cancun, Mexico. He received training from Grand Master Soon Ho Lee (ATA President) and from 8th Degree Black Belts Chief Master Instructors. Pending ATA’s approval, Mr. Tabet plans to test for his 6th Degree Black Belt at the 2009 World Championships and strive to achieve the Master rank level in 2010. Before coming to the US, he was one of 20 students in east Algeria to be awarded a scholarship to a French Lyceum. Three years later, he graduated with honors and received his International Baccalaureat in bilingual mathematics. As a result of his academic standings, he had a choice among three academic scholarships: the first to Italy as a captain in the Merchant Marine, the second to England as an airline pilot, and the third to the US as an engineer. He chose the US because it was very attractive destination and he thought it would be his only opportunity to visit it… just to find out later that the US would become his new home! His working career includes the following: chief instructor of several martial arts schools, Georgia Tech soccer coach leading the team to the SE collegiate championship finals in Tampa Florida, design engineer of pressure vessels ASME code VIII, performance and regulatory compliance engineer contributing to US government approval of Plant Vogtle nuclear operation license, director of sporstlife exercise program, certified personal trainer receiving eight customer service awards, customer representative in computer credit verification systems, sales team leader, project manager in fiber optics and telecommunication, program manager in the environmental cleanup program, and government consultant. As a third generation teacher, he enjoys teaching the human values and life skills. He strives for the personal victory approach as well as excellence, by performing today better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today. His philosophy is more than just kicking and punching. He encourages his students to attain good grades, set good examples, develop short and long-term vision, be good listeners, persevere no matter what happens, and accept the importance of discipline and responsibility. Mr. Tabet acknowledges that martial arts training has helped him overcome many challenges. It has allowed him to build a solid base in mental and physical strength, perseverance, resiliency, self confidence, humility, understanding, and communication. He believes that with a balanced parental support, student’s commitment, and teacher dedication, miraculous goals can be achieved. Mr. Tabet attributes his Taekwondo success stories to his black belts dedication and to the parents’ continuous support and trust in the program. Some of the success stories include many so-called ADD students who have become free of their medication, teenagers who have learned to cope with peer pressure to become positive role models and leaders with straight “A” report cards, and many adult who initially thought they could not perform martial arts and who had surprised themselves by achieving black belt and many other goals. Mr. Tabet is touched by the dedication of students who continue to train after more than a decade, the ones who keep in touch, and the new students who are motivated and committed to carry our mission forward. With consistent discipline, training, and positive thinking, Taekwondo can be an effective weight loss management and can enhance the overall health for both youth and adults. As Napoleon Hill said: “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, a person will achieve.”
